At around 8.30PM on Aug 12th, one of my friend called me saying IBM off campus drive is der in East West engineering college[EWEC], with a good pay scale. Without thinking much we decided to go there. East West Engineering college is in Magadi Road, Visvadeenam post [atleast 25kms from place where i stay!] and to reach there at 8.00 AM in the morning with Bangalore traffic at its peak is in itself a big Interview. But still i managed to reach the EWEC by 8.30AM and to my surprise, the Anjana Nagar bus stop is full of Engineering grads wearing full formal with tie and shoe.!! EWEC is 2 kms away from Anjana Nagar bus stop and these guys almost streched a queue walking from this bus stop till EWEC.
After a walk till EWEC, I was shocked to see 3000 grads [Yep! 3000 engineering graduates from all over karnataka] standing outside EWEC waiting for the directions of IBM HR. It was a kind of big engineering fest. People were dressed up like models and wer ready for the interview. It was a kind of reunion meet for many, i was able to meet my friends from all the schools and colleges i've studied until nw,
I would request IBM to arrange such campus drives so that i could meet all my old friends.. he.. he.. :-)
This huge crowd started screaming and were making hell a lot of noise outside the college, soon a police jeep was called to manage that huge crowd. These ppl who had come for the interview were seen sitting on college lawns and were chit-chatting as in a park.!! College officials started to scold these people and even they tried to wave sticks at the people. Every person in that place was confused of how these ppl are going to conduct an interview for 3000 ppl.?? I heard some guys talking to each other - "Maga, eega written aa illa Apti naa?".. and some started to call for referrals and few also for their consultancies. Most of them were already placed in atleast 1 company. Event time was given 8.00 and ppl kept on coming till 11.00 .. Finally, after making us to wait for 2 hrs we were told to submit our resume and leave the place.
